Dr. Vishala B.K. is currently working as a Chief Librarian at St. Agnes College (Autonomous) Mangalore, Karnataka. Dr Vishala has done her M.Phil and Ph.D. in Library and Information Science. She has rich professional experience of more than three decades. 
Dr. Vishala has contributed more than 25 articles in reputed national journals, edited books and national and international conference volumes and presented papers at various conferences and seminars. She was also one of the editors of the journal published by the Karnataka State College Librarians Association (KSCLA), Bangalore, and an in-house research journal- Echo Research: A Multidisciplinary Journal and the editor of Four National Conference Proceedings and a Chapter in Edited Volume. 
She has to her credit many seminars and workshops organized at the national and regional levels. The most significant was the 57th Annual Conference of the INDIAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION (ILA), New Delhi in 2012 at St. Agnes College, Mangalore.                In January 2024. She organised an International Conference in the Library and Information Science at St Agnes College.
She was the recipient of the Best Librarian Award by the Karnataka State Mahavidhyalaya Shikshaka Sangha, Bangalore in 2023, the prestigious KALA National Award, Conferred by Karnataka State Library Association, Bangalore in the year 2013 and State level    Best Librarian Award conferred by the SC and ST Karnataka State Library Professionals Association (R.), Bangalore in 2014. 
She was the First Lady General Secretary of the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers(R)- (AMUCT) from 2018 to 2022. She served as the Joint Secretary of the Federation of University and College Teachers Association (FUCTAK), Bangalore.
She was the Secretary of IQAC in her college from 2012 to 2017. She served as Secretary of Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu Library Association in Mangalore and actively associated with the State Library Association and other professional bodies. 
She was the Coordinator of RUSA (Rashtriya Uchhatar Shiksha Abhiyaan), MHRD Scheme, for all the Private Aided Colleges affiliated with Mangalore University. 
She is a life member of IASLIC, ILA, DK&KLA and KSLA. 
She has delivered several lectures as a resource person at national, State and regional Institutions. She has conducted a minor research project sponsored by U.G.C.

Her specific area of expertise lies in web design, developing blogs, e-journal management and library automation.​​​​​​
